Where the conversation actually lives: replies on a critique post, a note about a paper that took charcoal badly, a quiet message between two people planning Saturday morning at the harbour wall. Nothing here is ranked or counted, and a slow reply is still a reply.
Threads and replies from the boards, ordered by the last time someone added to them. Critique notes, material questions and studio diary entries all land here in the order they were touched.
Thandi posted three life drawing sheets from the Saturday session in Observatory and asked why the darks go shiny by the next morning. Four replies so far, mostly about sizing and how cheap pads behave in coastal air.

A first-time panel maker in Durban logged humidity readings alongside each coat. The thread has turned into a running record of drying times across the coast, with notes on thinning rabbit skin glue and when to stop sanding.

What actually worked: drawing the same kitchen chair every morning for six days, and switching to a softer pencil for the shadow side. What did not: trying to finish a linocut after 9pm.

Six people confirmed, two bringing folding stools. The thread covers where to park, which side of the harbour keeps the light longest, and whether the wind will let anyone work in pastel.

Before-and-after shots from a north-facing window setup, plus a note on why direct sun flattens the tonal range. Someone asked about colour checking against the physical print, and the answers stayed practical.

A first post from someone three weeks into daily sketching. No one talked down to them. The replies covered paper tooth, pressure, and why an HB can feel like a lie on cheap cartridge.

Messages on BeBrave Art Space are read by the same small group who moderate critique threads and keep the studio diary boards tidy. If a post needs moving, a critique rule is unclear, or a Saturday plein air meetup in Cape Town or Johannesburg needs a hand, write to us directly rather than posting in the wrong sub-board.
Best for login trouble, moving a misplaced post, reporting a thread that broke the critique rules, or asking about trading offcuts between members.
Use this if a meetup is happening today and details are missing, or if a studio diary entry needs removing quickly. Weekday mornings are the steadiest window.
Email is answered within two working days. Thread reports and rule questions usually get a reply the same day they land.
Your board name, the thread title, and a short note on what you need. For material questions, mention your city so we can account for local humidity and drying times.
Many questions about posting rules, beginner boards and critique etiquette are already covered in the guide center.
